Wildwood, incorporated in 1995 by its residents, features a country atmosphere--rolling hills and wide open spaces-all just outside the hustle and bustle of the city.
Residents of Wildwood, sharing a desire to preserve the native woodlands and rural roadways that make Wildwood unique, led a five year incorporation effort resulting in a journey towards the goal of "Planning Tomorrow Today." This effort was set forth by the residents of Wildwood to ensure that the unique character and assets of the community are preserved in years to come. They also recognize an on-going commitment to planning a community which provides a range of services, housing, and opportunities for all segments of its society.
Wildwood, abundant in natural beauty, offers Babler State Park, Greensfelder Park and Rockwoods Reservation and Range for those who enjoy the great outdoors.Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park features many opportunities for a family adventure. The park is great for a game of softball or volleyball, or swimming in the Olympic-sized pool.There are also guided horseback trails which lead deep into the parks wooded interior.Hiking trails are also available.Greensfelder lies at the foot of the Ozark mountain range and features shaded trails and spectacular views.Hayrides are also a family favorite at Greensfelder!
Rockwoods Reservation offers 1,843 acres of hiking and self-guided nature trails. This reservation features an abundance of woodland creatures including coyotes, turkeys, bobcats and deer, among others. It is sure to be an interesting experience for all.
Another interesting attraction is the Wabash Frisco and Pacific Railroad Association, Inc This organization invites children and adults of all ages to take a ride on their 12 inch gauge steam railroad. The railroad is open May through October and takes visitors on a scenic tour along the Meramec River.
Wildwood is currently in the phase of development-new business opportunities are arriving, while still maintaining the balance with the environment that the residents have worked so hard to preserve. While in Wildwood, you may notice the new bike trails that are being added.
