St. Peters, once a successful farming community, is now a bustling city with a promising future. The town began as a fur-trading community. Later, two railroads brought more visitors and the towns population began to grow. Incorporated in 1910, the city has encountered many transformations and is now home to 53,000 citizens. It is centrally located on I-70, Highway 70 and Highway 94.
Along with its large population, St. Peters offers attractions for everyone. Shopping lovers should visit the popular Mid Rivers Mall. Or, for those into sports, there is the state of the art REC-PLEX.
St. Peter's offers several annual events which are sure to please. These annual events include the Home and Garden Show featuring exhibits and fun activities, and the eARTh Day/Arbor Day celebration. The city also hosts the Kite Flying Extravaganza. The festival includes professional kite-flying demonstrations and free kites. Veteran's ceremonies are also recognized annually. The Fishin Derby is held at Woodlands Sports Park in mid-June. The Olde Tyme Picnic is a three day festival typically held the third weekend in July. The Olde Tyme Picnic features carnival rides, arts and crafts booths, old gas engine displays, great food, and a list of entertainment, including live music.
The city also hosts a City Auction and Progress Business Expo. The Bicycle Safety Rodeo allows riders ages 5 to 15 the chance to test their skills on a regulation BMX track while promoting bicycle safety. Dress up in your Halloween best and visit City Hall during the Halloween Carnival. The Tree Lighting Ceremony is held to ring in the holiday season. The Incredible Edible Christmas Tree is created from donated non-perishable food items which are donated to local food pantries to help those in need during the holiday season.
