Creve Coeur, Missouri Creve Coeur, incorporated in December 1949 is currently home to 17,000 and spans over 11 square miles.
Creve Coeur developed around Olive Street Road, now Olive Boulevard, back in the time of wagon and stage coach travel.Olive Boulevard followed a centuries old Indian trail which led the way across the high ground from the Mississippi River to the Missouri River. Creve Coeur was one of many unicorporated communities that grew from the extensive wagon, carriage and stage coach travel along the road as passengers went to explore new lands east and west of St. Louis.
Creve Coeur, which means "broken heart" in French is surrounded by legend. It is said that an Indian princess fell in love with a French fur trapper, but the feelings were not reciprocated.According to legend, she leapt from a ledge overlooking CreveCoeur Lake. After her death the lake formed itself into a broken heart.
Rich in history, Creve Coeur also preserves some historic structures. The Hackman and Clester cabins in Conway Park are nearly two hundred years old. Lake School House, a one-room schoolhouse and the Tappmeyer farmhouse, both built in the late 1800s are also preserved.
Also adding to the city´s richness was the conclusion of World War II. By 1950, St. Louis City had reached its peak in population and returning soldiers had to search in the County for homes for their families. This added to the growth of Creve Coeur.
Present-day Creve Coeur offers several parks including Millenium Park , Lake School Park , Fountain Park , LaVerne Collins Park , Beirne Park , Malcolm Terrace Park and Conway Park . For more information on each park´s offerings, check here.
